Evaluates applicants to our graduate program, makes offers to potential graduate students, and conducts recruiting activities. Committee reports to COGSA.
Comps
Administers and evaluates the uniform graduate Comprehensive examination. Committee reports to COGSA.
COGSA
Committee on Graduate Student Affairs
Regulates and oversees the graduate training program. Organizes the preparation of Training Grants, represents the department in Interdisciplinary Training programs, has student members, reports to Chair and Executive Committee. Chair of COGSA serves as Director of Graduate Affairs and as a member of Executive Committee.
Executive Committee
Advises the Chair of the Department and discusses matters of concern to the Chair or any other member of the Department; makes recommendations to the Department and drafts policies for discussion by the full Department as requested by the Chair; annually recommends to the Chair appointments to committees; decides on nominees for internal and external faculty awards; acts as a Grievance Committee in cases of disputes between the Chair and the member of the Department; comments on and guides the Chair in the content of the budget, presented by the Chair; responsible for holding periodic competitions for bridge funding for faculty who have temporary lapses in funding. Membership: All members are elected by the faculty as a whole, following nominations from the floor. Membership includes Chairs of UGCOM, COGSA, FEC, and an assistant professor. Chair is ex officio member. Committee reports to Chair and faculty as a whole.
Faculty Review
Evaluates faculty performance, issues reports to individual faculty, and decides raises. Committee reports to Chair and Dean. Chair is ex officio member. FEC chair serves as a member of Executive Committee.
Honors
Advises students who wish to receive Departmental Honors in conjunction with undergraduate research. Organizes and administers Hones examination. Committee reports to UGCOM.
Recruiting
Conduct searches for new faculty members. Committee reports to faculty as a whole.
Seminar
Organizes the departmental seminar program.
Shared Facilities
Space and Facilities
Assigns and regulates departmental space. Chair is ex officio member. Committee reports to Chair and Executive Committee.
UCGOM
Undergraduate Teaching Committee
Regulates undergraduate curriculum. Committee reports to faculty as a whole. The Teaching Assignments are the responsibility of a faculty member who sits on UGCOM. Balances departmental need for teaching with individual needs. Committee reports to Chair and Executive Committee. Chair of UGCOM serves as Director of Undergraduate Affairs and as a member of Executive Committee.
