Thesis Research
At the end of the second semester, students decide on a laboratory for their thesis research by mutual consent between the student and prospective advisor, and begin research work during the Summer. In the rare event that a student is not accepted into any of her/his first three choices of laboratory, or for other good cause, COGSA will consider a request for postponement of this decision until after an additional rotation in another laboratory. In the interest of fairness, students and prospective advisors are asked not to make binding commitments to each other before a specific date in mid-May, which will be agreed upon each Spring with the Biochemistry Program and announced by COGSA in mid-April. Students may change thesis laboratories at their initiative. Students who feel that they want to change their thesis laboratory should notify COGSA and feel free to consult with any member of COGSA concerning this decision.
