Laboratory Rotations
First-year students are required to participate in at least three laboratory rotations, each lasting approximately 11 weeks. Before each rotation, students submit to COGSA a ranked list of three laboratories in which they would like to work. Assignments are made based on submitted requests and available laboratory spaces. Conflicts are resolved by lottery. If a student must take a third choice rotation, that student will be given preference for a first choice in the next rotation. Students receive 3 semester hours of academic credit each semester for these rotations under the course name of MCDB 6000: Introduction to Laboratory Methods, where each laboratory is assigned a different section number. The first rotation must be in an MCDB laboratory; subsequent rotations may be in MCDB or Biochemistry laboratories.
