Training Facilities

The department is housed in a 100,000-sq.-ft. building constructed in 1971 and a recently completed 130,000-sq.-ft. adjoining building. The new building will provide space for 18 faculty, of whom 11 have been hired. The new building also includes a departmental library and reading room, animal facilities, and a transgenic mouse facility. The department houses several auxiliary facilities and services available to students for their research. These include an electron microscope suite, a million-volt electron microscope, a DNA sequencing facility, and an imaging/graphic arts studio. The reading room contains a wide selection of reference material to complement the science branch of the university’s nearby main library. Excellent and diverse computer facilities are available in the depart-ment, and communication to national databases and other sites via the Internet and other networks is.
