This facility was constructed with support from the William Keck Foundation.
Microinjection apparatuses and associated equipment were purchased with the support of the National Science Foundation.
The purpose of this page is to give you an introduction to our Transgenic Facility, to provide information about how to use the facility, to distribute information and protocols relevant to animal research techniques, and to provide links to other websites that facility users may find useful.
The primary mission of this facility is to provide a barrier environment for the housing of valuable strains of mice and a core facility for use in the generation of transgenic mice. These mouse strains are generated to study problems in basic biology and disease. Investigators using the facility are presently working with strains of mice that have the potential to lead to new insights into heart disease, neurodegenerative disease, and diabetes. Although the facility primarily serves the MCDB department, animal housing space and transgenic mouse production services will be made available to other investigators if possible.

Dr. Gail Ackermann, BDS, MDent (Oral Path), is a Professional Research Assistant who oversees the facility and performs pronuclear injections, blastocyst injections, embryo transfers, and other transgenic services.
Scott Richeson, B.F.A., and Brandon Geer are the Research Animal Attendants who are responsible for the smooth running of the facility and quality care of the animals.
Kevin Jones, Ph.D., is the faculty curator for the facility.
