Shipping of Mice to other Institutions
First contact the campus veterinarian, Dr. Al Petkus at 2-3411 or
apetkus@clipr.colorado.edu
The veterinarian at the recipient institution will almost always require
a veterinary report, possibly including serology. Dr. Petkus will supply
this report, the tests necessary vary depending upon the situation. This can present a significant delay in shipping mice.
At the same time as contacting the veterinarian, inform Gail Ackermann, 2-6317 or ackermag@stripe.colorado.edu that you intend to ship mice and give a desired shipment date. This should be at least a week in advance to ensure that shipping crates are available, though the vet report may require additional time if serology needs to be performed.
Prior to the day of shipment, label the cage(s) of mice to be shipped
clearly and provide the necessary address information, including phone numbers. The facility will provide the necessary shipping materials (box, food, etc.) as part of the service charge. Investigators will be billed for shipping charges plus $20 to cover the costs of the shipping materials and $14/hour for the time required to pack the animals, etc..
