Ordering Mice from Commercial Vendors

Ordering standard mouse strains from commercial vendors
All mouse PR's are to be given to Gail Ackermann. She has a box in the
Porter Biosciences lobby area and an office in the facility.

Harlan is the preferred vendor, they sell a number of the most commonly used outbred and inbred strains. Their shipping methods provide a lower chance of infection in transit than mice obtained from other vendors (e.g. Jax). Mice can be ordered from these other vendors if necessary, but may require different quarantine procedures.
 
Mice will be received into the Vendor room of the Transgenic
Facility. After a period of 3 weeks, survival serology will be performed
on one of the mice received and if a clean serology report is obtained
the mice can be moved into the investigator's room. Note this means a 4 week lag between obtaining the mice and having access to them. This is cumbersome, but provides a significant additional margin of safety.
