Interim Summary
Two basic point have been made to this point, both in support of the idea that the brain is a computer, or at least like a computer.
First, computer-like parts and circuits can be arranged to function just like the nerve cells in the brain.
Second, a computer be theoretically proven to be able carry our any logical operation and thus can be programmed to match even the peculiar thought processes of a human such that you can't tell the difference between a computer and a person in a Turing Test. (Really?)
If you don't think these are powerful, indeed seductive, ideas just look up the term "Artificial Intelligence" in your favorite WWW search engine and note the plethora of references you uncover.
AI has been a BIG deal for over 30 years, involving some of the most able thinkers of our times. They must believe something is there.
And, that belief is bolstered by newer approaches to using computer-like machines to mimic minds.
